27th 2010
NWUP is very pleased to announce a Tionól,
workshops and concert with:
Michael McGoldrick, Gay
McKeon, Emma
Sweeney,
Tony Byrne, Niamh Parsons, Graham Dunne, and Biróg

The concert will be at:
The Southern Hotel, Mauldeth
Road West, Chorlton-Cum-Hardy,
Manchester, M21 7SP
One of the most beautiful and expressive voices in all of
Ireland. Niamh Parsons has the ability to climb into a song,
take ownership and then sing it for the listener to
experience--not simply hear."
-Cindy
Reich, Music journalist for "Irish Music Magazine" (Dublin,
Ireland)
Michael McGoldrick has already acquired the reputation
as one of the greatest flute players in the world and this is a
rare chance to see him in an intimate acoustic environment.
Michael will be joined by two of the
finest musicians around: Manchester fiddle player Emma Sweeney
and, from Dublin, guitar player Tony Byrne.
Expect to hear some beautiful music.

Gay McKeon took an interest in uilleann piping in the
1960s under the tutelage of the renowned piper and pipe-maker
Leo Rowsome at the Piper’s Club on
Thomas Street
in
Dublin’s city centre.
Gay has recorded and toured with
many artists
and
in 2006 was
appointed CEO of Na Píobairí Uilleann and in
that capacity he project managed the restoration of its Georgian
headquarters on
Dublin’s
historically significant,
Henrietta Street
and the establishment of an uilleann
pipe-making training centre.
Biróg made their debut at the lovely Welsh Tegeingl
Festival of Hidden Folk in August 2010 to great acclaim. They
feature rising star Lucy Wright on vocals/jews harp, Becky
Taylor on uilleann pipes/whistles, Frances O'Rourke on piano
accordion and Pat O'Reilly on bouzouki.
The band was named
Biróg after the druidess in Irish mythology.
